Dr. Emeline Assédé is an Associate Professor in Forest Ecology and Management, Associate Editor of the journal Agroforestry Systems, and a practicing farmer with deep, hands-on knowledge of agroforestry systems. She has more than 15 years of experience as a lecturer, researcher, and farmer. She holds a PhD in Forest Ecology and Management from the Université d’Abomey-Calavi in Benin and has dedicated her career to the study of forest ecology, land-use and land-cover change, and the development of sustainable forest management practices, including agroforestry systems.
Dr. Assédé has worked with several organizations as a project coordinator and team member, including the Académie de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur (ARES), the International Union for Agroforestry (IUAF), and Capacity for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development (CEBioS). Her work has focused on woodland ecology, sustainable forest management for local livelihoods, and the promotion and implementation of agroforestry systems.
Passionate about sustainable forest management and agroforestry, she has collaborated with multiple academic institutions, including the University of Pretoria (South Africa), the Université de Liège, and UCLouvain (Belgium), contributing to the advancement of sustainable African woodland management and agroforestry practices.
In addition to her professional activities, Dr. Assédé has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications, including recent review papers such as Understanding Drivers of Land Use and Land Cover Change in Africa and Low-cost Agroforestry Technologies for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her work has been presented at major international conferences, including the 4th World Agroforestry Congress (Montpellier, 2019) and the 26th IUFRO World Congress (Stockholm, 2024), with a focus on land-use change dynamics and innovation in agroforestry systems.
As Vice-Secretary of the International Union for Agroforestry (IUAF), Dr. Assédé is committed to strengthening institutional coordination, supporting effective governance, and fostering collaboration across the global agroforestry community. She aims to leverage her academic expertise, field experience, and international networks to further advance IUAF’s mission of promoting agroforestry as a cornerstone of sustainable landscapes and resilient livelihoods.
