Brief info

Jakub Houška studied forestry at the Mendel University (Brno, Czech Republic), where he obtained his Ph.D. in landscape ecology, as well. He also acquired an M.Sc. in GIS and remote sensing at the University Pierre et Marie Currie (Paris VI). He is the head of the Department of Landscape Ecology of the Silva Tarouca Research Institute of Landscape and Ornamental Gardening. Jakub lectures at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. His professional field is wide including soil and soil protection, remote sensing techniques and, more recently, environmental effects of agroforestry systems. Among other things, he also helped (through remote sensing) chimpanzee orphans in Congo-Brazzaville to find their suitable habitat in wild nature.
Jakub is a co-founder of the Czech Agroforestry Association (earlier treasurer, nowadays vice-chairman) and a CZ national sub-delegate of EURAF. He was the architect of the International Conference “Agroforestry – environmental and production alternative in agriculture” held in Prague, at which leading European agroforesters (Ch.Dupraz, P.Worms, S.Briggs, F.Balaguer, J.Smith, D.Freeze) gave presentations. He is also a member of the working group at the CZ MoA for preparing subsidies title for Agroforestry within the next programming period. He negotiated and oversaw the establishment of the International Union for Agroforestry (IUAF) in Prague (1.6.2020) and helped acquire financial support from CZ MoA. He is the Czech Ex-Officio Trustee of the IUAF according to its Statutes.
